The Future Is Global: A Journey of Purpose, Partnership, and Possibility

By: Manny Peña

Just a few weeks ago, I had the extraordinary privilege of spearheading a mission on behalf of Smart Optimal  Solutions (SOS) that underscored the profound power of partnership, vision, and shared purpose. As we strive for a sustainable and equitable global future, our recent collaboration with Central International College (CIC)  and Kyambogo University in Uganda marked a pivotal moment in advancing that mission.

This collaborative effort was initiated through a U.S. Embassy-funded grant awarded to Kyambogo University to foster global academic and entrepreneurial exchange. The catalyst? A visionary connection made by Sean  Powell, Vice Provost of CIC in Waverly, Virginia. Through his work and deep relationships with Historically  Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the  U.S., a bridge was built—one that connects African students with American campuses and creates reciprocal pathways of global impact.

However, we must acknowledge the challenges posed by shifting policies and social landscapes. With Diversity,  Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives facing new hurdles across the United States, the need for independent and sustainable solutions has never been more critical. SOS  was identified as a forward-thinking, for-profit entity capable of ensuring that the Future Is Global initiative not only survives but thrives. Our role? To activate entrepreneurship, sales leadership, and clean energy innovation as the foundation for global education and economic transformation.

I, along with SOS Sales Agent and SOS Global Agent Abdul Bigirumwami, embarked on a week-long journey through Virginia, engaging with HBCU  leaders and shaping the future in real-time. Our first stop:  Howard University in Washington, D.C. Thanks to  Abdul’s remarkable network, we were honored to be received by H.E. Ambassador Robie Kakonge, Uganda’s  Ambassador to the United States, who offered her full support and backing of the Future Is Global initiative.

From Washington, we traveled to Richmond to engage with Virginia Union University and Virginia State  University and then continued our tour to Hampton  University and Norfolk State University. It was at Norfolk State where the university president committed to partnering with us in advancing this work.

Our journey culminated in an unforgettable award ceremony, attended by leaders and luminaries who inspire change. The keynote speaker, Governor Douglas L.  Wilder—the first African American governor in U.S.  history—delivered a powerful message on the imperative of doing what is right, even in the face of adversity. His words resonated deeply, igniting a renewed sense of purpose within us.

Also in attendance was SOS CEO Patrice Tsague, who connected with icons like Doug Williams—the first  African American quarterback to win the Super Bowl— and educational and diplomatic leaders from both Uganda and the United States. These connections are not merely symbolic; they are strategic, embodying the alignment needed between purpose, power, and progress.

But what exactly is The Future Is Global?

At its core, The Future Is Global is a dynamic initiative designed to provide students—especially those at HBCUs and universities in Africa—with access to experiential learning, sustainable product development, and real-world entrepreneurship.

Here’s how:

Business Education Meets Innovation: Students engage in hands-on learning through business incubators, global internships, and clean energy technology hubs.

Cross-Cultural Exchange: Through strategic partnerships, we facilitate student and faculty exchanges between Africa and the U.S., fostering global understanding.

Sustainable Manufacturing: We are establishing university-based production centers for clean energy products, stimulating economies and careers simultaneously.

Long-Term Impact: This initiative focuses on creating jobs, startups, leadership opportunities, and lasting infrastructure—crafted by the very students we serve.

This initiative is not about charity; it’s about empowerment. It embodies the core values of Smart  Optimal Solutions. We believe that generosity extends beyond giving—it involves building, creating space for others to rise, and understanding that sustainable energy can illuminate not just homes, but futures.

As we move into the next phase of implementation, we are developing our Innovation and Technology Center—a facility designed to serve as both a sales hub and a training ground for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow, both in  Africa and the United States. And this is just the beginning.

I extend my deepest gratitude to:

Patrice Tsague, CEO of Smart Oregon Solutions, for his unwavering leadership and vision.

Mr. Willard Bailey, President of Central International College, for his steadfast support and commitment to global education.

Sean Powell, Vice Provost of Central International College and SOS Sales Agent, for his instrumental role in building bridges between institutions.

Abdul Bigirumwami, SOS Sales Agent and SOS Global Agent, for his dedication and invaluable connections that have propelled this initiative forward.

Professor Eli Katunguka-Rwakishaya, Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University, for his academic leadership and partnership.

Professor Bismark Agbemble of the U.S. Embassy Uganda located at Kyambogo University for making the first call to CIC to make it all happen!

Dr. Judith and Dr. Ann, for their contributions and support in making this collaboration a success.

So here’s my invitation to you: Join us!

Whether you are an investor, educator, student, or visionary—we need your voice, your talents, and your passion in this mission. The Future Is Global—and the future is now.

Let’s be the generation that gave generously, innovated boldly, and built a global legacy together.
